and Legend.
Pirates! Fact and Legend relies almost exclusively on
freelance writers. The majority of Pirates! Fact and Legend content is written
by independent experts: historians, enthusiasts, consultants, teachers and
professors. If you are interested in contributing content as such an expert,
please continue reading for details on the process.
We ask that you keep the following important points in
mind:
- Pirates! Fact and Legend purchases all electronic
publishing rights only. This means that Pirates! Fact and Legend reserves
the right to reprint, republish or post articles in any electronic form
(including on-line databases and the internet).
- Content must be appropriate for a variety of age
levels. Descriptions of potentially objectionable situations should be
within a PG-13 level. Special permission must be obtained for content that
might be rated R

Audience
Our website receives thousands of hits per day and is one
of the most popular pirate related web sites in the world. Pirates! Fact and
Legend is used by numerous institutions around the globe. Our audience covers a
spectrum of age groups, from child to adult.
Where applicable, articles should be academically useful
while providing a casual reading experience for recreational use.
Author Qualifications
We invite all qualified individuals to apply for a
freelance writer position. You are considered qualified when: you have working knowledge of some aspect of the history
of piracy.
Article Types
We will provide you with article topics that we need for our publication. However, we are always
looking for new and creative article and content ideas.
Application Procedure
Please email
employment@piratesinfo.com and include a brief biography of the author
and writing samples. If possible, also include education and relevant experience. Include your email address and your mailing address. Please indicate the area of
pirate history you are interested in.
We may provide you with a several topics, if you decide on of the topics, you will
prepare an abstract, outline, or summary of your proposed content or article
idea.
If we approve your abstract, we will contact you to
determine a deadline for delivery of the completed manuscript. If we accept your work, we will send you a contract that you must sign and return to us. We pay $.05 USD per word once we receive the signed author (please allow 2-3 weeks for payment delivery).
Completed manuscripts can also be sent for review. However, please
note that we receive a number of unsolicited proposals and they take time to
review. It may take up to 2 months before we decide whether to reject or accept
the article.
Article Specifications
Articles should be approximately 3000 words long depending on the
availability of source materials. In most cases you should provide a description
of an appropriate and engaging illustration for our artists every 1000 words.
